Mercadona is the leading supermarket in Spain with it's 1.626 supermarkets (supermercados).
The reason for this review is that they have a very nice extra for travellers. They are upgrading all supermarkets with the new "Ready-to-Eat" concept. That is, if there is enough space to do so.
A nice corner is created with good tables and chairs, and a handy quick-kitchen is installed, including a microwave and tools to eat and to clean. And down in that kitchenblock are wastebins in which you can dispose packages and leftovers. Forks, knives and spoons are lightweight, sturdy and re-usable and free to take (-away).
This concept is very handy if you are in the mood for a stop to have something to eat and a cooled drink. And maybe warm up or cool down. Buy in the shop whatever you want and consume it in that corner. The soups and meals are of excellent quality and I especially like the soups.
An impression from another mercado.
Mercadona has usefull openinghours from 09:00 to 21:30 at 6 days a week. So they do not practice a siesta (as all really big supermarkets do not) which comes in very handy for travellers. There is not much more frustrating then finding everything closed (from ie 14:00 up to ie 18:30 or even up to 19:00) by the regular time bicyclists start looking for a place to eat and drink and stay.
Tip : there is no walloutlet, so charging anything is not possible. Which actually is understandable and normal practice for non-guarded areas.
Tip 2 : HowTo save the Planet ? You can prevent a ticket being printed by handing over a lot of privacy. If you do so you will have the ticket in your mailbox instead.
Tip 3 : as you might have noticed even the Main USA-politicians Do Not Use Whatsapp. They All Use Signal. Guess why ... However, you will not have noticed that if you don't speak english since spanish newspapers don't mention (notice) that.
